-The Impact beat Portuguese 2nd division side SC Freamunde 5-1 (Were they playing their reserves?? Most probably, that's what happens when you play teams who are already in the midst of their season) today.
Roberto Brown, Filipe Soares, Pierre-Rudpolh Mayard, Rocco Placentino and Reda Agouram all scored for the Impact. According to CKAC Sports, the game was played in horrible weather conditions with rain and wind gusts up to 70 km/h.
-AC St-Louis announced this morning that the Edward Jones Dome in St-Louis will host a “The Rest of the World” vs. South America soccer game. More details here..
-The FC Tampa Bay Rowdies unveiled their new kits today, green and gold. Pics : Here , here and here.
-And for those of you who haven't seen this yet, Brian Quarstad of Inside Minnesota Soccer is reporting that apparently the United States Soccer federation has scolded the NASL and USL for being too proactive in promoting their respective brands. A good read.
Tampa Bay: Two words: Bizz Bizz.
ReplyDeleteLOL..
ReplyDeleteI hate the national teams BS that leagues in Quebec keep pushing so while Im happy the St.Louis thing is for a good cause, its another one of those 'soccer for foreigners' vibes again.
ReplyDeleteHere, we went from having ethnic teams in soccer up until a decade ago to having real team structures and the ethnic leagues that exist serve for the self centered navel gazing (im an ethnic too btw, so...) which is fine for recreational calibers yet Concordia (coupe des nations in which Impact players used to play in), Laval (the Calcetto world Cup) and everywhere else, they keep insisting on pushing this fake nation against nation BS.
Having refereed throughout the 90s at the end of the violent era of soccer in Montreal, I have had enough of this and prefer what leagues in Toronto regions do and hold end of season festivals where you take players from all different ethnic teams and mix them together so that they end with players from different backgrounds for the lenght of the tournament. Yes, the jew and the arabs get to play together as do the egyptians and algerians and all the petty and less petty hatreds that are only emboldened by these fake national teams
are put aside because those players are teammates.
Soccer is supposed to bring people together, not help them ghettoize themselves and the Friendship Cup is a great example of what soccer can do to bring people together.
Sure, this isnt a Montreal soccer rant but neither was your post.
Now, cmon you lazy bastard: more content!!!
